General public

It is a university mission to disseminate the results of our scholarship and cancer research is a topic of special interest to everyone. Over 1 in 3 people will get cancer, so few of us can claim to have been untouched by this ancient disease.

Our research is funded by Cancer Research UK and the Medical Research Council. All this funding ultimately comes from the generosity and consent of the community we live in. We have a duty to make the results of our scholarship available to all. This means making the effort to speak plain English and making our interaction with the public engaging and entertaining.

We are established participants at a number of Oxfordshire Science festivals during National Science and Engineering week. The festival in Oxford begins with the Bonn Square Launch event, a week later we are to be found in the University Natural History Museum taking part in ‘Wow! How?’; finally we take part in the Brooks University Science Bizarre. Our scientists take part in Café Scientifique, and SciBar.  We even bake scientific cakes!
