A festival of medical research

If you pay tax in the UK then you help fund our research.  Inspired by this the Department of Oncology set out on a road trip across the Thames Valley area in support of the Medical Research Council’s (MRC) “Festival of Medical Research”.  MRC is a leading funder of research into human disease and obtain their funds from the Treasury.

To give people in the Thames Valley area an opportunity to find out how their money is used an information stand was set up in shopping centres and supermarkets and passers-by were invited to engage with our staff, the interactive exhibit and eat some chocolate!!

We explored the immune system and its life-long fight against cancer, how it fails and what we might do about it.   During the period 18 - 24 June  nearly 100 people spoke to us.
